My son recently got his wrist fractured by another kid in elementary school. This kid is always pulling his hair and bothering him. I’ve talked to the school staff, but nothing’s been done. Now I’m not sure what steps to take… anyone been through this?
That’s so tough! Have you thought about contacting the other kid’s parents? Maybe they’d be willing to help fix the situation?

I haven’t yet… I don’t even know them, and the school suggested talking to his teacher first. Honestly, I’m just frustrated and not sure where to start.

Yeah, I get it. Schools can be tough about giving out info. Maybe you can ask the teacher if they’d be willing to pass along a message?
Did the school say anything about watching your son and that kid more closely? They might need to monitor interactions more.

We asked, but the principal only suggested maybe moving my son to another class, which makes no sense to us since he’s not the problem.

Yeah, moving the kid being bullied doesn’t seem right. They should be focusing on the kid causing the issues, IMO.
Maybe the school can provide counseling for your son? A fractured wrist is traumatic for a little kid.

I didn’t think of that! Good idea… I’ll bring it up when they call me back after the school break.

Definitely ask! Schools sometimes have resources you wouldn’t know about unless you push for it.
Are you thinking about any legal steps? Some parents try to get the other kid’s parents to cover medical costs.

I was wondering if that’s possible… Not sure where to start, though. Just trying to figure out my options.

You could look into small claims court for things like this if it’s just about medical bills.
If the school isn’t taking action, maybe you could contact the district or even CPS? It could push the school to take this seriously.

Interesting… I didn’t know that was an option. Not sure if CPS is necessary, though?

Yeah, CPS can be contacted if there’s concern about a child being aggressive. Sometimes they get involved if the behavior might stem from issues at home.
