What's the current interest rate on home loans

I’m thinking about getting a home loan and was curious about the current interest rates. Does anyone know what they are now?

Last I checked, the average 30-year fixed mortgage was around 6.92%. It can vary though, depending on the bank and your credit score.

6.92%? That’s quite high compared to last year. Has it been increasing recently?

@Vero
Yes, rates have been on the rise. It’s due to a few economic factors including inflation rates and federal policies.

Is that rate for all types of buyers or does it vary?

@Skyler
It generally varies. First-time homebuyers might get slightly better rates sometimes.

Are there better rates for shorter loan terms, like 15 years?

Definitely, shorter-term loans usually have lower rates because they’re less risky for lenders.

What about adjustable rates? Are they any better?

Adjustable rates might start lower, but there’s the risk they could increase over time. You have to be careful with those.

@Lior
Good point on the adjustable rates. Always a gamble with the market.

Anyone have tips on how to get the best rates? Is it all about shopping around?

Shopping around is key, also boosting your credit score can significantly lower your rates.

Check out different types of lenders too, not just big banks. Sometimes smaller lenders offer competitive rates.

I’ve heard that joining a credit union can also offer benefits like lower interest rates. Any truth to that?

Absolutely, credit unions often have lower rates for members. Worth looking into for sure.
