Will Michigan suspend my drivers license if I leave before sentencing?

I have a court date coming up for sentencing in Michigan, but I’m wondering if they’ll suspend my drivers license if I leave before the date. The charge is Malicious Use of a Telecommunication Device. Anyone know if this is something to worry about?

I think if you leave before sentencing, you could be in trouble. They might issue a bench warrant for your arrest if you don’t show up.

Yeah, exactly. If you get pulled over, the cops will see the warrant and you could be arrested right there.

@Blair
Pretty sure it’s a big deal. Better to show up and deal with the sentencing than risk getting caught later.

I had a similar situation. I didn’t show up and they suspended my license immediately. Definitely don’t skip it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t risk it. It’s better to face the consequences now than later. Plus, you don’t want more charges.

Did they tell you about any travel restrictions or if you can leave before the sentencing? That might help clear things up.

No, I haven’t heard anything about travel restrictions. I wasn’t sure if I could leave for a bit before the court date.

If you fail to show, yeah, it could lead to a suspended license and possibly worse. Make sure you’re there, no matter what.

Your lawyer should have all the details on this. I’d double-check with them just to be sure.

I haven’t talked to them yet about this. I’ll get in touch with my lawyer. Thanks for the advice!
